The Contemporary Greek Art Institute presents the exhibition Women in Visual Arts 1960-1980: Their contribution to the Greek avant-garde.
The contribution of women artists to the Greek avant-garde has been established beyond any doubt by the very same dynamics of their work. During a crucial period for the development of Greek art from 1960 to 1980, where concepts such as, “modern art”, “avant-garde” or “modernization”, were especially influential and electrified the atmosphere, they opted for greater expressive freedom and led the way by presenting progressive artworks.
The exhibition at the Contemporary Greek Art Institute iset aims at bringing the significant action of those Greek women artists to the forefront, not as a secondary reference, but first and foremost.

The Athens Classic Marathon will be hosted in Athens on 09 November 2014.
The marathon course is based on the myth from which the race gained its name: Pheidippides, a messenger in Ancient Greece, ran from the Battle of Marathon to Athens to announce the Greeks' victory over the Persians. The provenance of the competitive race is traced back to the Marathon race at the 1896 Olympics. The Athens Classic Marathon began in 1972 as a joint venture between the Greek tourist board and athletics association. The race came under the auspices of the current organisers and SEGAS in 1983 and has since become a major race, being awarded Gold Label Road Race status by the IAAF.
Nowadays, thousands of Marathon Runners join the Athens Classic Marathon every year in order to challenge themselves and become part of the history!

Benaki Museum presents the exhibition "Dominicos Theotokopoulos - between Venice and Rome".
The exhibition is hosted at Pireos Annexe and presents the first steps of one of the best painters of Greece: El Greco. Dominicos Theotokopoulos (its Greek name), was born and raised in Crete. When he was a young man he left his island to live and create most of his masterpieces in Venice, Rome, Madrid and Toledo.
The exhibition investigates the artist’s first steps in the West, during his stay in Venice and through the early stages of his residence in Rome (1567-1574). With the help of paintings, engravings and manuscripts, visitors will be able to follow the blossoming art of the ambitious and defiant Cretan in the important artistic centres of post-Renaissance Italy.
The exhibition at the Benaki Musuem will present for the first time in Greece the El Greco's painting "A Boy Blowing a candle" from the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte in Naples.

Some 300 ancient artifacts from 41 Greek and European museums are on display into the exhibition’s three thematic sections: Health, Illness and Treatment.
